1.About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and HandyTT (“HandyTT”, “we”, “us”). They cover handytt.com, the HandyTT mobile app and anything else we run under the HandyTT name (together, “HandyTT” or the “platform”).
By signing up or using HandyTT, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the platform. Under the Electronic Transactions Act, Chap. 22:05, agreeing online is as binding as signing on paper.
2.Who can use HandyTT
- You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract.
- HandyTT is for jobs, work and goods in Trinidad & Tobago.
- The details you give us must be true and kept up to date. One person or business per account, and no accounts in someone else's name.
- Keep your login safe. You're responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us straight away at support@handytt.com if you think someone else has used it.
- If you sign up for a business, you confirm you're allowed to act for it.
3.What HandyTT does, and doesn't do
HandyTT is a meeting place. Clients post jobs, contractors send bids, and the two decide whether to work together. We also run Classifieds, where people sell or rent out tools, equipment and materials.
- We are not a party to any agreement between a client and a contractor, or between a buyer and a seller. That agreement is between you and them.
- Contractors are independent. They don't work for us, and we don't direct or supervise their work.
- We don't take or hold payment for jobs or Classifieds items. You pay each other directly, on terms you agree between yourselves.
- We don't guarantee the quality, safety, legality or timing of any job, bid, item or listing, or that a job will get bids or a listing will sell.
4.If you post jobs
- Describe the job honestly, with a real budget, location and deadline.
- Only post work you have the right to arrange, for example on property you own or have the owner's permission to work on.
- A bid is an offer. Nothing is agreed until you accept a bid. Before work starts, agree the scope, price, materials, timeline and payment with the contractor, ideally in writing.
- Do your own checks before you hire: look at the contractor's profile, past work and reviews, and ask for references, licences or insurance where the job calls for it.
- Make sure the job has any approvals it needs, such as planning or building approval from the Town and Country Planning Division or your municipal corporation.
5.If you bid on jobs
- Your profile, trades, past work and certifications must be true. Only show photos of work you did or have permission to use.
- Only bid on work you can do, at a price and timeline you intend to keep.
- You're responsible for following the law that applies to your business and your work. That includes business registration, tax and VAT, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Chap. 88:08, electrical inspection where needed, and any trade licence or permit.
- You're responsible for your workers, subcontractors, tools and site safety, and for carrying insurance suitable for your work.
- Don't use HandyTT to collect clients' details for marketing they didn't ask for.
6.Live Bids
- A Live Bid is a timed bidding session a client sets up for a job. The client chooses the start and end time and whether only invited contractors can take part.
- A bid placed near the end may extend the session, so everyone has a fair chance to respond.
- A client can set a private most-they'll-pay amount that contractors don't see.
- The lowest bid doesn't win automatically. The client decides whether to award the job, and may award it to nobody or cancel the session.
- Placing fake bids, or bidding on your own job, is not allowed.
7.The Verified badge
A Verified badge means we checked the business against the Companies Registry Online System (CROS) of Trinidad & Tobago. It shows the business is registered. It is not a background check, a licence check, proof of insurance, or a promise about the quality of their work.
8.Reviews
- Reviews must be honest and based on your own experience of the job.
- Don't offer, ask for or accept payment, discounts or favours in exchange for a review, and don't review your own business.
- We may remove a review that breaks these terms, for example one that is fake, abusive, shares personal information or is about the wrong job. We don't remove reviews just because they're negative.
9.Classifieds
- Sellers must own, or have the right to sell or rent out, what they list, and describe it accurately, including its condition and any faults.
- The sale or rental is between the buyer and the seller. Check the item before you pay, and meet in a safe, public place.
- Items must be legal to sell in Trinidad & Tobago. You may not list firearms, ammunition or explosives, drugs, stolen or counterfeit goods, or anything that needs a licence you don't hold.
- Some listing types need a paid plan. The pricing page says which.
10.Plans and payment
- Every account can post jobs, send bids and message. Paid plans add extra tools. What each plan includes and costs is on the pricing page.
- Prices are in Trinidad & Tobago dollars. We'll tell you how to pay, and whether VAT applies, before you upgrade.
- Offers and sale prices, including free offers, run until we end them. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a plan you're on starts costing more.
- Features marked “Soon” aren't built yet. They aren't part of what you're paying for until they launch.
- You can cancel a paid plan at any time by emailing us. It runs until the end of the period you've paid for. We don't give refunds for part-used periods, unless the law requires it or we've ended your plan without you breaking these terms.
11.Things you must not do
- Break the law, or use HandyTT to plan or arrange anything illegal.
- Mislead people, commit fraud, or ask for deposits for work you don't intend to do.
- Harass, threaten or abuse anyone, or discriminate against anyone on grounds protected by the Equal Opportunity Act, Chap. 22:03.
- Post spam, chain messages or content that is obscene or hateful.
- Share someone else's personal information without their permission.
- Impersonate a person or business, or claim a connection to HandyTT you don't have.
- Try to get into accounts or systems you aren't allowed into, interfere with how HandyTT works, or spread malware. This may also be an offence under the Computer Misuse Act, Chap. 11:17.
- Scrape, copy or harvest data from HandyTT with bots or scripts without our permission.
12.No tolerance for abuse
HandyTT has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Anything that breaks the rules in “Things you must not do” can be removed without notice, and the account behind it suspended or closed.
Every profile, job, review, listing and conversation has a Report option, and you can block anyone: they can't message you and you won't see their content. We review reports within 24 hours.
13.Your content and ours
You own what you post: job details, photos, profiles, bids, reviews, listings and messages. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, show, copy, resize and share that content so we can run and promote HandyTT. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where others have already relied on it (for example a review you left) or we need to keep it by law.
Only post content you have the right to post. Don't upload photos or text that belong to someone else, which may breach the Copyright Act, Chap. 82:80.
The HandyTT name, logo, design and software belong to us. You may not copy or use them without our written permission.
14.Your personal information
We handle your personal information in line with the Data Protection Act, 2011 of Trinidad & Tobago. Our privacy policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it and how to ask for a copy or a correction. We don't sell your personal information.
15.Suspending or closing accounts
We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close an account if we reasonably believe it breaks these terms or the law, or puts other users or HandyTT at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
You can delete your account at any time from your dashboard in the HandyTT app (Delete account), or by emailing support@handytt.com. Reviews you left stay visible under “Deleted user”.
16.Problems with a job or a sale
If something goes wrong with a job or an item, contact the other person first and try to sort it out. You can report a user or listing to us, and we may act on our side, for example by removing content or suspending an account. We can't decide disputes between users or make anyone pay or finish work.
You may also be able to get help from the Consumer Affairs Division, or through the courts of Trinidad & Tobago.
17.Our responsibility to you
We work to keep HandyTT accurate, safe and running, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”. It may sometimes be down, slow or contain mistakes.
As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for:
- the work, conduct, bids, listings, goods or payments of any user;
- loss or damage caused by a job, an item or a meeting arranged through HandyTT;
- loss of profit, business, income or data, or any indirect loss.
If we are found responsible for a loss, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and TT$500.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited under the laws of Trinidad & Tobago. It also doesn't take away any rights you have as a consumer, including under the Consumer Protection and Safety Act, Chap. 82:34.
18.If a claim is made because of you
If someone makes a claim against HandyTT because of your content, your work, your goods, or your breach of these terms or the law, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, including legal fees.
19.Changes to HandyTT and these terms
We may change HandyTT and update these terms from time to time. If a change matters, we'll tell you by email or on the platform at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless we need to change something sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you keep using HandyTT after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you don't accept them, you can close your account.
20.Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. If you have a complaint about HandyTT, email us first and we'll try to resolve it within 30 days. If we can't, the courts of Trinidad & Tobago will decide it.
21.General
- These terms, together with the pricing page, are the whole agreement between you and us about using HandyTT.
- If a court finds part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- You can't transfer your account or these terms to someone else. We may transfer them if HandyTT is sold or reorganised, and your rights won't be reduced.
- We may send you notices by email to the address on your account, or on the platform.
